The Other Diane, 2026, oil on board, 11 × 15 in.
My foray into non-rectangular panels comes from the desire to share in a feeling of distortion. Relieving these wood chunks of their squareness felt like the stark selection— and then erosion— of memory. I’ve painted my friend Diane in the moment of finding her name written in a random book. It felt giddy to share in her joy of sharing letters with a stranger.
